In 2010, the 37th ICAR Biennial Session will be hosted by the State agency “Agricultural Data Centre” (31 May - 4 June). The Session will certainly offer a stage for all those involved in the animal identification, evaluation and recording sectors. At the same time, the various planned sessions and working groups are selecting the most suitable issues for consideration in view of the current worldwide demands for both human society and livestock industry.

According to the Programme, the Biennial meeting will provide an excellent opportunity to participants to share the experience in the various areas of animal production and strengthen the links between producers and specific sector of the industry which supports their work.

During the Session, a number of specialised Workshops are scheduled in order to broaden the common experience and concentrate the exchange of similar experiences in specialised areas.
These are:

  1. Use of molecular genomic tools in animal breeding
  2. Manufacturers Showcase
  3. HI technology and interaction with genetic evaluation

These special meetings are an opportunity to broaden the standard structure of the Session, and each of the topics has been selected for its present interest in the animal production sector.

In addiction, the participants will have the chance to attend to a very interesting scientific sessions with a selected number of presentations and to take part in Workshops and discussions of the latest and most relevant research in the field of animal production sector. The ambition of the meeting is to reach the highest representatives of each sector in order to make the event a profitable and enjoyable experience for all the participants.

Industry leaders will come together to discuss scientific research and data, and share practical applications developed from their work; while representatives from the production sector will join the meeting presenting their results and finding new answers to modern needs of a globalized market.

The local organisers and ICAR are committed to reach the expectations of the participants and are aware about the new requirements and needs of the present production sector. At the same time are ready to facilitate the presenting of meaningful answers to contemporary uncertainties.

For this 2010 Biennial Session, two publications are expected:

  • The “Book of Abstracts” that will be distributed to participants before the meeting in a rough binding which will help them in joining to the session with a general overview of the speeches and presentations; and
  • The “Book of Proceedings” produced after the meeting that will be refereed by the Chairmen of the Sessions. The “Book of Proceedings” will be available only in digital form for downloading from the ICAR website

PDF files of all the PowerPoint presentations of the Sessions will be available on the ICAR website in the  following days from the end of the Session. Authors who present their data to the Sessions agree to have their .pdf version on the web for the benefits of all the participants and ICAR web-users

All the Presentations, Abstracts and Manuscripts must be submitted in English.

Call for Abstracts is now open and files proposed for theatre presentation can be can be submitted to riga@icar.org 

The proposed file must contain the following information:

  1. Title of the presentation.
  2. Name of the Author(s) and name of their institution/organisation.
  3. A short abstract of the presentation, not longer than 15 lines using Verdana 10pt.
  4. The proposed session (number of the Session and its Chairman) in which the manuscript best fits.

Files which do not comply with all the above requirements will not be taken into consideration.

Deadline for submission is 14 March 2010 and the Authors will be informed by 15 April about the acceptance or rejection of their proposal.

BOOK OF ABSTRACTS

By 30 th  April the Abstract of the manuscript must be submitted by e-mail to the Latvian Organising Committee (erna.galvanovska@ldc.gov.lv and evija.skujina@ldc.gov.lv) using the prepared Abstract Model and following the instructions contained in the PDF file available here

BOOK OF PROCEEDINGS

By 30 July the final manuscript must be submitted to riga@icar.org using the prepared Manuscript Model, indicating the number of session and its Chairman from the programme following the instructions as reported in the PDF file and respecting the following rules:

Abstract
The abstract should be self-explanatory and contain all main data and conclusions of the final manuscript and it should not contain more than 300 words. It should be an objective summary, briefly describing the procedures and findings and not simply stating that the study was carried on such and such and results are presented, etc.

 

Tables

  1. Avoid large tables. Tables must fit to A4 size and Font Verdana 10t) must be used
  2. Number tables in Arabic numbers according to their sequence in the text. The text must include reference to all tables.
  3. Create tables with the specific tools available in Word. Use of tabs and space is not allowed.
  4. Tables should be clear without reading the text.
  5. Column headings should be brief and clear.
  6. Do not use vertical lines to separate columns.
  7. Any necessary explanations essential for understanding the table should be given as a footnote at the bottom of the table.
  8. Decimals must be properly aligned and standardisation among various column must be respected

Illustrations

  1. All illustrations should be black and white. Illustrations must be submitted also in a separate file as JPG or GIF format
  2. If photographs are necessary, submit digital photos with good contrast and intensity also in a separate file as JPG or GIF format
  3. Number illustrations in Arabic numbers according to their sequence in the text. The text must include reference to all illustrations.
  4. Each illustration must have a header below the illustration.
  5. The resolution of line drawings should be at least 900 dpi and for pictures and photos at least 300 dpi.

Formulae

  1. Formulae should be typewritten, if possible.
  2. Subscripts and superscripts should be clear.
  3. Give the meaning of all symbols immediately after the equation in which they are first used.
  4. Number equations in Arabic numbers serially at the right-hand side in parentheses.

References

  1. All publications cited in the text must be presented in an alphabetical list of references at the end of the manuscript (no numbering).
  2. In the text, refer to the author’s name (without initials) and year of publication.
  3. If reference is made to a publication written by more than two authors, the name of the first author should be followed by “et al.” In the list of references, mention all authors.
  4. References cited together in the text should be arranged chronologically. Arrange the list of references alphabetically by authors’ names, and chronologically per author.
  5. Use the following system for arranging your references:
  • For periodicals:
    Pluske, J.R. and I.H. Williams, 1996. Split weaning increases the growth of light piglets during lactation. Austr. J. Agr. Res. 47, 513-523.
  • For edited books:

  1. Abbreviate journal titles.
  2. Work accepted for publication, but not yet published, should be referred to as “in press.”
  3. References concerning unpublished data and “personal communications” should not be cited in the reference list, but may be mentioned in the text.

  1. Avoid using of footnotes.
